TELEVISION in INDIA

1. The official launch date of terrestrial television in India was on 15th september 1959.
2. The regular daily transmission was started in the year 1965 as a part of ALL INDIA RADIO.
3. Only in 1972, Mumbai and Amritsar got television service.
4. Until 1975,only 7 cities had television service.
5. It was separated from radio in the year 1976.
6. In 1982, both color TV and Nationalized telecast was introduced.
7. In 1980's,Indian small screen program was started in one and only channel Doordarshan which was owned by govt.
8. Asianet is the first private and popular channel in India.
9. Only after 1991,we got foreign and private domestic channels.
10. As of 2012, there are over 823 channels out of which 184 are pay channels.
